NJS Wood Furniture builds custom tables for both living and work spaces as well as other furniture pieces. Credenza and vanity cabinets, desks, bedframes, bookshelves, shelving units & mantle pieces. We also custom build bench seats & chairs for both indoor and outdoor use.
What type of material do you use?
Material choice largely depends on the build and what the piece is primarily intended for. Tables for example see a lot intentional use so solid hardwood such as Walnut, Maple and Oak offer superior durability. Credenza, vanity and other cabinets typically are built with premium veneer plywood or other domestic or exotic hardwoods. Outdoor seating is made with Teak or Acacia for a balance of durability, maintenance and weather resistance. Material choice always has an array of options and the strongest choices offer the balance of durability, aesthetics and personal preference.
What is a typical lead time? What is the process of buying custom furniture?
The time it takes to complete a project from start to finish is generally 3 to 8 weeks depending on scope of work, shop schedule and other variables.
The process begins with an overall understanding of what you are looking to have. This discussion is about design, proportions and intent in order to provide an accurate estimate for the work. Following an agreement on price, a detailed proposal is submitted for contract. Thorough design details, elements and material finish are reviewed and implemented to ensure a build that is to your liking. The build phase begins upon approval of CAD drawings and once the piece is competed it is delivered and installed.
What forms of payment do you accept? Are deposits required?
Forms of payment may vary but generally electronic payments are accepted.
Deposits of 50% are required to secure work. The deposit places your build on the shop schedule. Balance of payment is due upon completion.
Is there a charge for delivery?
For local customers in San Diego County delivery is included as well as standard installation. For customers outside of San Diego County a travel cost is added to account for mileage, time & other related cost. Installation costs may be included for all customers if the installation requires on site assembly or other work outside the scope of a standard installation.

Repair is done either on site or if needed, the piece is brought back to the shop for repairs and delivered upon completion at no cost.
